Lucy Will Fly High with British Airways Business Apprenticeship

Lucy-May Fox, from High Wycombe, was the 2022 Student Union President and has been awarded a business apprenticeship with British Airways, in which there were over four hundred applicants and only fifteen places.

"I studied Business, Psychology, and PE, as well as completing my Extended Project Qualification and became the President of the Student Union and Student Governor.

My first impression was that there was no sense of judgement, and that you can be free to express yourself and Henley allows you to do that with its wide range of subjects and extracurricular activities.

I chose The Henley College because it’s situated in such a beautiful area, and it was highly recommended as an excellent college. Also, it was the only college that could provide me with the courses that I wanted to do.

My best memories were as my time as the President of the Student Union, which there was only five members at the time I was appointed. From then on, I made it my mission to build the union up and I loved slowly watching it grow. Now, we meet once a week, we have our own logo and there are over 30 members, with an official Student Leadership Team with over eight different roles. It is an honour leaving the college knowing that I have been successful in establishing a fully functional union and have left a cohort of incredibly talented students in charge.

Coming to The Henley College, I always imagined myself pursuing a career in sport psychology, and now I am pursing my business apprenticeship, where hopefully there will be opportunities for me to work my way up in the company. Alongside, I am going to have flying lessons to earn my Private Pilot’s License.

All my teachers have aided me in being the best I can in all my subjects. My business teacher especially has helped me to realise my true potential, as even though I am the only student in my class that did not study GCSE Business, I am now one of the top students. I thoroughly enjoy each of my lessons and I learnt that business is what I could see myself doing in the future.

In the future, I am to be a commercial pilot for a prestigious airline company, and it would be a dream to fly the legendary Airbus A380.

The Henley College helped me to improve all my fundamental skills such as communication and teamwork and discovered things about myself that I didn’t know, such as my ability to lead a Student Union and represent the voice of the students as a Student Governor."

Do not worry if you do not have a picture-perfect plan for your future at the end of your GCSEs. Continue doing the subjects you love or what you could possibly see yourself pursuing and naturally everything will fall into place.
