Follow these ten steps to get your place at The Henley College

1. Entry requirements

  • To study a Level 2 Diploma or an Extended Certificate you must achieve at least 3 grade 3s in appropriate subjects from 6 GCSEs.

  • At least 3 grade 4s in from your best 6 subjects ( a Pass at Level 2 vocational subjects equates to a grade 4).
  • Or a Level 2 Diploma at merit or distinction
  • At least grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and English Language or English Combined
  • Access to Extended Diploma in second year requires an overall grade of at least MP (Merit Pass) in your 90-Credit Diploma in the first year.

A Levels


  • To study an A Level programme you should achieve at least 2 grade 5s and 4 grade 4s from your best 6 subjects.
  • 4 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (please check each individual course as all A Levels will differ in entry requirements).

2. When to apply

4. Interview


  • Will take about 30 minutes
  • With a trained advisor or Programme Leader
  • You will need to bring a copy of your latest school report
  • We'll tell you if you need to bring anything with you on the day (eg an art portfolio or a prepared audition piece)
  • For some courses you'll have a short test
  • Bring your parents/guardians if you like
  • What sort of thing will we ask you? Why have you chosen to apply for a place at the College and the course(s) you have listed? How do you think life at College may be different to life at school? What are your interests and hobbies? What are your future aims?

5. Getting an offer


If you are successful we will give you a conditional offer letter either at your interview or by post within 3 weeks of your interview.

6. Accepting the offer

Complete and return the forms sent with the offer letter as soon as possible to confirm your conditional offer.

7. New student event

  • Come and visit the College again, and meet other students who are likely to be in your classes next year.
  • Different to Information Events you may have already attended.
  • Advice on how best to make the transition from GCSE to A Level/BTEC.

8. Transition activities
