Expert Geologist is guest speaker on World Environment Day

The College were delighted to welcome Dr Valentin Laurent, expert in the field of Geology, to speak to our students on World Environment Day.

World Environment Day 2020 was held on 5th June. This annual event is promoted by the United Nations to encourage worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

To mark this special day, The Henley College remotely welcomed Dr Valentin Laurent to speak to our A Level Geography, Geology and Environmental Science students about his journey from being a student in France, to working at Imperial College London, within one of the best Geology departments in the UK.

The College has been successfully delivering a broad range of online teaching and learning since March, with extensive and creative use of Microsoft Teams, with virtual events delivered via Zoom. We are delighted to be able to share a video of Dr Laurent's talk below:

Oliver Walker, said: "It was a very interesting talk by Dr Laurent, I didn’t know lots about geology or how important it is before this, so that was very helpful!"

Luc Delas also said: 'I liked the talk and learnt a couple of things - I was surprised there were so many field trips in the course.'

Environmental Science teacher, Marco Azevedo, said: “The students seemed to enjoy the fact that Geology involves a lot of field work and this was an opportunity for them to look in more detail at one of the the exciting career paths they can take with Geography and/or Environmental Science A Levels that we offer at The Henley College.”
