Latest College Updates: Covid Information

Update 21st February 2022

From 21st February, staff and students in schools and colleges will no longer be required to take part in regular asymptomatic testing. Therefore students will no longer be required to test twice weekly for Covid-19. Lateral Flow Test kits will no longer be available from the College but will be available from pharmacies. From 1st April Lateral Flow Test kits will no longer be free.

If you are a student or a member of staff and you have symptoms of Covid-19 however, you should still take a Covid-19 test and if positive, self-isolate until the 6th day. While it may no longer be a requirement under law to do this, the College will nevertheless still require staff and students to self-isolate if they test positive for Covid-19. The College reserves the right to refuse entry into College for any member of the College community who has tested positive for Covid-19, until they are no longer symptomatic.

Update 27th January 2022

As of today it is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering in public or education settings. However The Henley College strongly recommends that staff and students continue to wear face coverings in crowded and enclosed spaces. 

Face masks are available from both Deanfield and Rotherfield receptions. 

Certain individual shops, businesses and transport providers may still request that customers and passengers wear face coverings, so please make sure you respect these individual policies to help keep others safe.

The Henley College strongly encourages students to continue to use Lateral Flow Tests twice a week before coming into college. Test kits are available from both Deanfield and Rotherfield receptions.

If you receive a positive test result please do not come into college. Please inform your faculty administrator that you will be isolating. 

Update 20th January 2022

From Thursday 20^th January face coverings will no longer be required in classrooms or other teaching spaces, such as workshops. Face coverings are still required in communal spaces (including corridors and study areas). 

Update 4th January 2022

Before returning to College, please carry out a lateral flow test to confirm you do not have COVID.

Testing with Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) will take place in R313 (Rotherfield) during student tutorial time. For the first tutorial session, students are required to go to R313, for a Lateral flow Test. The lateral flow test is recommended, but not mandatory.

When in College you will be required to wear a face covering at all times until further notice. If you are medically exempt, you must wear the corresponding lanyard.

All exams planned for January will still take place and you are required to attend to pass your course.

All lessons will continue to be face to face. If lessons need to be moved online, you will be notified.

We recommend carrying out a lateral flow test at least twice per week. Test kits can be picked up from both reception areas (Rotherfield and Deanfield)

If you feel unwell prior to coming to College, please do not come in. Take a lateral flow test and notify the College of your absence via your Faculty Administrator.

Please notify us immediately if you test positive for COVID via a lateral flow or PCR test. Parents/ guardians are to call the relevant Faculty Administrator and provide evidence of the PCR notification for this to be an authorised absence.

Update 15th December

From 14th December 2021, adults who are fully vaccinated and all children and young people aged between 5 to 18 years and 6 months identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19, are strongly advised to take a lateral flow device (LFD) test every day for 7 days and continue to attend their setting as normal, unless they have a positive test result.

Daily testing for contacts of COVID-19 will help protect education settings by reducing transmission and will also help keep pupils in face-to-face education. Once notified by NHS Test and Trace as a close contact, all eligible staff, pupils and students should take an LFD each day for 7 days and report the results through the Online Reporting System and to the College.  

If they test negative, they can continue to attend College. If they test positive, they should self-isolate and order a PCR test to confirm the result. If the PCR is positive, they must self-isolate for 10 days. If the PCR test is negative, they no longer need to self-isolate but should continue to carry out the remainder of the daily tests, and only need to isolate if it is positive.

Anyone over the age of 18 years and 6 months who is not vaccinated, must isolate in line with government guidelines if they are a close contact of a positive case.

All students have access to LFD tests throughout the Christmas period, if you require tests please pick this up from your Tutor’s office or Deanfield or Rotherfield receptions, this should give you enough kits until the end of December 2021.

Under current government guidance, when College re-opens on 5^th January 2022, the College will be doing on site testing where all students will be offered lateral flow tests on site at the start of term.

Update 29th November 

The Department for Education have instructed us that face coverings should be worn in communal areas in all settings by students, staff, visitors, unless they are exempt, from Monday, 29th November 2021.

Students should also continue to wear face coverings on public and dedicated school transport, unless they are exempt.

Update 26^th February

Return to College

Following the Government’s announcement, we are pleased to inform you that the students will be returning to face-to-face learning on campus from Monday 8^th March. We will be carrying out a phased return of students over the w/c 8th March as follows:

Level 3 Diploma Year 2 students

Level 2 students

Level 1 Foundation students

From Wednesday 10th March

Level 3 Diploma Year 1 students

From Thursday 11th March

A-level Year 1 students

We are looking forward to welcoming our staff and students back to the College and would like to thank all of our teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication to remote learning as well as congratulating our students for their adaptability and resilience in the face of these trying times.

Testing

We will be offering Lateral Flow Testing to all students and staff returning to College, to identify Covid-19 in those people who are asymptomatic. Students will self-administer the test under the supervision of College staff and volunteers. More information will be sent to students and parents, along with details on students providing consent to being tested.

Examinations

A Levels

On the 25^th February the Government announced that A Level exams will not take place in England, however students will be assessed by their teachers. Teachers will be given clear guidance on using a range of evidence to assess students, including coursework and optional questions from exam boards that teachers can use.

Vocational Subjects

Grades will be assessed by teachers and tutors and exams for occupational courses, which lead directly to employment, will still take place in line with public health measures. Alternative arrangements will be made for those who cannot access the assessments.

All A Level and Vocational students will only be assessed on completed and future work, so students should continue to study and engage. There will be checks by schools, colleges and awarding organisations to ensure fairness for all. Every student will have the right to appeal their grade.
