T Level Health student Zoe shares course experience

In celebration of T Level Thursday as part of National Apprenticeship Week, we spoke to student Zoe about what it's like studying T Level Health.

Zoe Brown, 17, lives in High Wycombe and formerly attended St Michael's Catholic School.
What I enjoy about studying T Level Health is that it is a practical course. I am not good at just studying from textbooks and I like to be able to learn practical skills that will be useful in the future. T Level Health offers work experience, which is one day per week in either a care home or a hospital. This is where you can get hands on experience and get to learn from people who have been and are in the healthcare industry. We also have one day per week doing science.

You will learn basic skills such as how to take blood pressure, how to use a hoist and how to make a bed as well as a range of other things that you will be able to use daily. We also learn key social skills such as proper communication and how to react in different situations, how to best communicate to people of different ages and intellectual capabilities and the importance of explaining things to ensure that patients know their rights.

As well as practical skills you get to learn about things like legislation and why it is important. We learn about infection control and personal hygiene, how to keep ourselves and others safe and we also learn about how science plays a role in healthcare.
