Overview

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required to become a fully qualified teacher in the post-16 further education and training sector.  

Units of study include:  

  • Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training.  
  • Developing teaching learning and assessment in education and training.  
  • Theories, principles and models of education and training.  
  • Wider professional practice in the post-16 Education and Training Sector. 
Assessment:

The qualification will be assessed through a combination of:  

  • Written assignments.  
  • Observation of teaching and learning.  
  • A portfolio of evidence of teaching practice (e.g. Schemes of Work, Lesson Plans). 
Duration: 15 Months
Entry requirements:

All candidates must:  

  • Hold a minimum of Level 3 qualifications in the subject they intend to teach, or have substantial industry experience.  
  • Possess a good level of literacy and numeracy.  
  • Have access to 100 teaching practice hours.  

Please note that all trainee teachers joining the programme will be required to complete an initial assessment of skills in English, mathematics and ICT.
