Nina Govett – A Level Mathematics
Nina chose to study maths because of her long-standing interest in the subject and her enjoyment of Additional Maths at secondary school, which introduced her to A level content. What she enjoys most is the problem-solving side of maths, following clear, logical steps until everything suddenly “falls into place”. Nina has also made the most of the college’s extracurricular opportunities, taking part in Maths Challenges and achieving a gold award last year, qualifying for the second round, and a silver award this year. These competitions have helped her develop creative thinking and approach problems in new ways. After Henley, Nina plans to go to university, where she knows her strong maths skills will be valuable across many areas of study.

Joan – T Level Health
Joan is studying a T Level in Health to build a strong foundation for her future in healthcare. Through her course, she has gained practical knowledge of the sector, developed important skills such as teamwork, and learned how to handle real-life situations in a professional way. She now has a clearer understanding of what a career in healthcare involves. Joan’s goal is to go to university and study nursing, fulfilling her long-standing dream of becoming a registered nurse and helping to make a positive difference in patients’ lives. She credits the college’s catch-up lessons, extra learning support and work placements for helping her build confidence and real-world experience, as well as preparing her for university through supportive tutor sessions.

Lauren – A Levels in Maths, History and Physics
Lauren is studying Maths, History and Physics and plans to go on to study Physics with Astrophysics at university, aiming to complete a Master’s degree. Her favourite areas of Physics so far have been Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics, as they are completely new to her and especially interesting. She is also excited to start her Astrophysics module, which is her favourite topic. Lauren has found her teachers very supportive, and particularly valued having female Physics teachers in her first year, which she describes as rare and inspiring.

Vasylisa – A Levels in Biology, Psychology and Computer Science
Vasylisa’s favourite subject is Biology, where she has been supported by her teacher Jess and the wider biology team. She especially values the extra material that goes beyond the curriculum, helping her to deepen her understanding. Vasylisa plans to study either Biomedical Sciences or Neuroscience at university, and her favourite module so far has been gene engineering.

Annie – T Level Health
Annie is also studying a T Level in Health and has a clear ambition to become a paediatric nurse. With support from Jacqueline and the Health team, she has been placed in a hospital paediatric ward, giving her valuable real-life experience of what the role involves. This hands-on learning is already helping her prepare for university applications and her future career. Annie’s favourite module so far is enzymes.

On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we are proud to highlight the talent, ambition and dedication of these students.
