Student Welfare and Safeguarding

We are here to be proactive and to help.

We take pride in acting with care and compassion, and everyone who visits or works here is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect. The college's HEART values exist to inspire high expectations and enterprise, and to require accountability, respect and teamwork, although please don’t assume that other students, visitors and staff will necessarily agree with your point of view.

Please be open, patient, and kind.

MEET THE SAFEGUARDING TEAM

Safeguarding Policy

The Henley College’s Safeguarding and Prevent Governor is Lizzie Watts

The Head of Student Services, Simon Wright, is the senior member of staff responsible for Safeguarding and offers support and guidance to staff and students about all aspects of student welfare. Please contact SWRI@henleycol.ac.uk if you require further help and information.

The College is committed to providing our students with a safe and secure environment.

It was noted in the recent student and parent surveys that 98% of our students and parents believe that The Henley College is a safe place to be.

The College believes strongly that our students and staff respect the rights of others, report inappropriate behaviour and do not tolerate or accept any form of bullying or discrimination.

CHILD PROTECTION, PREVENT AND SAFEGUARDING POLICIES

The College has a dedicated Safeguarding Team and the Designated Safeguarding Person, Simon Wright, is responsible for child protection and safeguarding matters. All staff have received safeguarding and Prevent training.

SUBSTANCE AND ALCOHOL POLICY

The College has a zero tolerance policy for both substance and alcohol misuse. No student must be under the influence of, or have possession of drugs or alcohol during the College day.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Our Code of Conduct sets out both the College and student commitments. It states what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour and all students will be issued with the code of conduct when they start at the College.

STUDENT WELFARE

The College has dedicated Counsellors available and a College Nurse offering drop-in sessions throughout the week.  All students will be given a Professional Tutor who will offer pastoral and academic support. There are three Senior Tutors at the College, a Student Services Team and a  Safeguarding Team, all offering support to our students.

We have “safe places” on both the Rotherfield and Deanfield Sites, clearly signposted for those students who have worries, anxieties or concerns.
