Central Enrichment

Central Enrichment at The Henley College

At The Henley College, learning isn’t just about your main subjects, it’s about who you become along the way. Our Central Enrichment Programme gives you the chance to explore new interests, develop real-world skills, and get involved in experiences that make your time here truly stand out.

Every student at The Henley College is expected to complete a minimum of 50 hours of enrichment per year, through activities that fit around your timetable and goals. Whether that’s joining a club, playing sport, taking a short course, or exploring something completely new, enrichment is your space to grow, connect, and challenge yourself.

Independent Living

Sewing for sustainability focuses on reducing the amount of garments ending up in landfill when they can be repaired.  We teach a range of skills which will elongate the life of a garment and also how to refashion garments to increase their life.  We intersperse this will other small seasonal projects such as reusable poppies etc. The sewing is entirely done by hand and no prior experience is necessary.

Creative Writing is an opportunity for anyone who loves to write stories or poetry to practice their skills and techniques. There is a different writing task each week to give students the opportunity to expand their ideas and develop their creative writing skills. We explore different writing techniques and styles and enjoy a lovely, quiet, creative space to let our imaginations run wild!

The Gym Enrichment programme offers college students the opportunity to improve their overall health, fitness, and wellbeing through structured and engaging gym-based sessions. Designed for all abilities, focusing on improving confidence and safety to promote lifelong fitness improvements.

Archaeology enrichment is for students with an interest in Archaeology, whether they know a little bit, or nothing at all. We explore the many different aspects of the discipline, as well as how to become more involved in your local community and potentially go on to study it. We have a trip to explore a Roman town in the Summer term, to bring what we’ve learnt about over the year to life!

The Law Society gives students the opportunity to explore the legal world beyond the classroom. Sessions include mock trials, debates, and commercial awareness workshops that develop confidence, public speaking, and analytical thinking. It’s ideal for anyone interested in law, criminology, or careers that require critical reasoning and communication skills.

All film enthusiasts are welcome at our film club enrichment where we will predict, discuss and enjoy a range of films chosen by you, located in our fully-equipped lecture theatre for a cinema feel.

As part of our dynamic Enrichment programmes, Henley College is proud to support talented student teams as they prepare for the 2026 UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKROC). This prestigious national competition is organised by ADS, the UK’s aerospace, defence, security, and space trade association and invites young engineers aged 11–18 from colleges, secondary schools, and youth groups to take part. It challenges teams to design, build, and launch a model rocket carrying a fragile payload (one raw egg), aiming to reach a target altitude while ensuring a safe landing within a specified time frame.

Henley College has championed UKROC within our Enrichment portfolio since 2024. The programme helps build skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) while also promoting creativity, innovation, and key life skills. It has a strong teamwork component, which will be important for the students’ future careers.

Through weekly collaborative sessions, students engage in research, design iteration, and progress reviews. They are on a journey from initial concept and detailed calculations through to the careful construction of their rockets, followed by a rigorous phase of testing and launch rehearsals.

Two Henley College rockets will first compete in a regional qualifying event. Successful teams will progress to the National Final, with the ultimate prize being a place at the International Final, where the UK champions test their designs against teams from France, the USA, and Japan.

We wish our young engineers the very best as they reach for the skies.

Every Tuesday at 11:40pm, students gather to brainstorm fresh content ideas for a variety of social media platforms. We explore trends, share feedback, and help each other refine creative concepts. After the discussion, students break off to develop and create their own content using the inspiration and guidance from the session.

The Driving Theory Club helps students prepare for their driving theory test in a supportive, structured setting. Each session covers key topics such as road signs, safety rules, and hazard awareness, along with practice questions and group discussions. Students can ask questions, build confidence, and strengthen their understanding of essential driving knowledge to get ready for their theory exam.
