English Literature AS/A Level

This course will help you to develop your skills of reading and critical analysis through the study of various texts, which range from the sixteenth century to the present day. In each year of the course you will study drama, poetry and prose. There is a compulsory coursework component and at the end of the first year you will sit the AS examination before progressing to the full A Level at the end of Year Two.

We usually go to the theatre at least once to see a set play and students will have the option of attending conferences on set texts for English Literature students.

Your communication skills will also develop through both oral and written work. These skills are useful in many careers such as journalism, broadcasting, advertising, the Civil Service, law, social services and teaching. Many students who have studied English Literature at Advanced Level go on to Higher Education to take a degree in English, Media Studies, Communications, Languages, Performing Arts, or in combined arts subjects.
