Sports Development Programme

The sports available are- Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball, Rugby and Rowing

The HENLEY College has expanded its successful sports development programme, now offering basketball in partnership with The Reading Rockets. The squad members receive specialist coaching from The Reading Rockets and have an opportunity to develop their strength and conditioning with experienced instructors. The college team has entered a number of national competitions and is looking to increase its numbers for 2010-11.

The football development squad has a new Head Coach. Andy Richie has a UEFA ‘A’ Level 4, Advanced Coaching Licence and has experience coaching at clubs such as Chelsea, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Olympic Lyonnais and Juventus.

The programme consists of:

• Fitness testing at the start of each year
  
• Fitness programmes developed as a result of testing
  
• Regular re-testing and re-assessment of fitness programmes
  
• Development of individual unit and team skills, related to the chosen sport
  
• Regular re-assessment of skill levels and needs
  
• Development of tactical awareness, skills analysis, game analysis and decision making
  
• Development of coaching skills and aquisition of coaching qualifications
  
• Development of refereeing qualifications where appropriate

PROVISION

• For Rugby, students will be able to use the facilities of Henley Rugby Club
  
• For Rowing, The Leander Club, Henley Rowing Club and Upper Thames have give their support
  
• For Football, students have the support of Wycombe Wanderers' coaching staff
• For Netball, students use the excellent sports hall at the College
  

All students are involved in a general programme of coaching techniques, fitness factors in sport and have the oppotunity to experience methods from a variety of sports
Development squad members will have the opportunity to compete in national and international competitions and may have to travel.
