Music at Henley

Music plays a very important role in College life for a large number of students. Productions, concerts, recital evenings, band showcases, workshops and other events occur at different times during the year (see up-to-date details via our News page) and involve a broad cross band of students as well as those studying music and Music Technology as an examination subject. The enrichment programme includes a variety of vocal and instrumental groups, which perform within College and also for the benefit of the wider community, and students have access to our expanding practice, studio and music software facilities.

For students who decide to study music at A Level there are two courses to choose from at both AS and A2: Music (OCR Board), involving both practical and academic disciplines, and Music Technology (Edexcel) involving the creation of performances and arrangements using music software (such as Sibelius and Cubase VST) and digital recording equipment.

A major event in the College's musical calendar is the annual musical during Autumn term. Recent productions have included Jesus Christ Superstar, Sweeney Todd, Hair (which performed for two weeks at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2003) and Cabaret. Recital evenings, concerts, workshops and performances at the Henley Youth Festival and main Henley Festival occur during the Spring and Summer terms. Students are involved in Chamber Choir and Orchestra and smaller music groups as part of the Enrichment programme.
