Art and Design: Foundation Diploma

The course will prepare you to progress to Art College or university to study at degree level.

The course provides a diagnostic experience for students to explore a broad range of Art and Design practice and learning.

In Term One you will follow a balanced range of activities designed to promote skills and ideas relevant to general Art and Design. Practical assignments and workshops will introduce you to Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, 3D Design and Sculpture, Fashion and Textiles together with Photography and IT.

The second term will allow you to develop your individual skills and interests and to select your specialist area of study. You will receive advice and guidance from your tutors to help you make the right choice.

During the third term you will confirm your interest in your specialist area. Your work will culminate in a final major project of your own initiation.

Educational visits will form an integral part of your course and provide opportunities to work on location, visit museums and galleries and experience new developments in art and design practice. Complementing this is a carefully structured programme of Art and Design History and Contextual Studies.
