Travel & Tourism students gain industry insights from independent travel agent

"Where would you rather be?" travel agency founder, Mark Pollard, spoke to students about his travel career.

Tying in with the students' module on Business travel, independent travel agent, Mark, spoke about how much this area has changed due to covid and how he has capitalised on customers wanting a personal experience with a knowledgeable travel agent.
Mark also spoke about how he got into the travel industry by doing work experience at Lunn Poly (now TUI) before taking up a Saturday job for a local travel agent whilst studying. When he finished college he was taken on full time by the travel agency, and then become general manager.
During the talk Mark described the process of being a travel agent, as well as insurance, consumer protection, and he spoke about how when he started work travel agents didn't have computers and did everything by telephone! This personal service is what he believes is a key strength in his current business as people in the older demographics want to speak directly to a person rather than booking everything online, which is something for our students to consider if they are hoping to work in this industry.
