Meet your soon-to-be Student Union Vice President

Rosie lives in Twyford, attended The Piggott School and studies A Levels in Politics, Sociology and English Literature and Language.

Why did you choose to study at The Henley College?

They offered my A-Levels here they didn’t offer at my secondary school, very good welfare provision and I wanted more academic independence and freedom.

What do you enjoy most about being at the College?

Meeting new people and having teachers with a genuine interest in the subject and vast experience in their fields.

What is important about the SU at The Henley College?

It helps represent the student body in governors meetings. As well as generally representing the student body in decision making.

What changes are you hoping to make?

Reflect what the student body wants to a greater extent.

Do you have a favourite place at The Henley College?

If I’m at college on a break, the canteen, but I spend most of my free time in the town when I have long breaks between lessons.

Who is your PPD Tutor and what has your experience of the PPD programme been like so far?

My tutor is Shelley, she is lovely, very understanding and kind. The PPD scheme is very enriching and helps me feel supported with my studies from someone who is not a teacher.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I am going to apply for Human, Social and Political sciences at Cambridge and see how that goes. I am also looking at other Russell group universities for a similar subject.

How do you travel to The Henley College?

Train

What do you enjoy about your Enrichment?

It’s really good fun, and you can notice the difference the SU makes.

Is there anything else you would like to say about life at The Henley College?

I am so glad I came here. It was hard leaving my friends behind at school but I have progressed academically so much in such a short time span.

What do you like to do outside of college?

I do singing lessons, as well as spending a lot of time doing super curricular activities like webinars and talks.

Describe yourself in three words. Friendly, happy and optimistic.

Favourite book? Looking for Alaska- John Green
Favourite film? Hairspray
Favourite food? Avocado
Favourite holiday? The Ardèche in France
Any pets? Two cats and fish
Any siblings? I have a twin brother

Any plans for summer?

I'm going to the south of France with my family and going on a sailing trip for nine days to France and back.

What do you enjoy about studying Sociology?

I have really enjoyed studying Sociology since starting in September, it’s easily one of the most interesting and relevant subjects I have ever come across in school. A lot of it links in to all of my other A-Level subjects, as well as life in general, which makes it a good subject as it can be applied to most subjects and daily life in some sort of way.

I really enjoyed the ethical side of RE in secondary school as well as the social commentary aspect of drama, so as soon as I learnt what was on the syllabus I was quick to choose it as an option. I would definitely recommend it to anyone studying media/drama/re/history at GCSE and enjoying it.
