Former Student Named Young Cheesemaker of the Year

Keir Walker was named Young Cheesemaker of the Year at the third annual Virtual Cheese Awards.

Congratulations to former student, Keir Walker, 25, from Ewelme, who was named Young Cheesemaker of the Year at the third annual Virtual Cheese Awards.

It comes after only a year of working in the trade at Nettlebed Creamery.

He says, "I was very shocked, but am grateful to the team here for nominating me.

I wasn’t interested particularly in cheese-making beforehand and I didn’t really know anything about it.

I had a friend working here and I had just finished my other job. He said, ‘Why don’t you come and try it? You might like it’ and I’ve been here since.

The best part about working for the creamery is seeing people eating the cheese and enjoying it, whether that be friends or family or others.

If you go to Waitrose and see the cheese on the shelf, it is a great feeling. Our cheese pops up everywhere — it was even reported to have been seen in the Caribbean!"

Super work Keir, keep up the tasty work.
