Thames Water Talk Showers Students with Ambition

Leigh Maxfield and Liz Banks spoke to students in the Cuthbert Suite about what opportunities Thames Water have available for them.

Eighty Business and Engineering students listened to an engaging talk led by Leigh Maxfield, Employment & Skills Partner, to learn about the different roles, opportunities and possibilities at Thames Water.

Leigh spoke about water testing, Thames Water being a generator of renewable energy and fatbergs as well as explaining the values and behaviours of the company. He called themselves a big team of problem-solvers.

Vocational Business L3 teacher Rebecca said, "Students were informed of the many varied positions available at Thames Water including Data Analysts, Environmental Engineers, Customer Service, Marketing, Archaeologists, Technicians, Admin and Logistics."

L3 Extended Diploma Engineering student, Harry Robinson Ranger said “It was a very informative talk. Leigh answered my questions well and now I’m possibly considering an apprenticeship with Thames Water after college.”

Education Manager, Liz Banks, chipped in reminding students that water is a finite resource and water scarcity is a huge problem for Thames Water. Liz commented “It was great to meet the students at The Henley College. They had some excellent questions about the Thames Water apprenticeship scheme, and I really enjoyed having a chat with them about their studies at the college and ambitions for the future.”

Leigh said At Thames Water, apprenticeships play a key role in our success in delivering life's essential service to our customers, and we have a great track record in helping our apprentices develop their careers. We are excited to share our apprenticeship offering with this fantastic pool of talent at The Henley College. We are also delighted to partner with The Henley College to deliver the industry placement for the new exciting T Level qualification starting next year.

Applications to Thames Water's Apprenticeship Scheme opens on Monday 6th February, which marks the start of Apprenticeship Week.
