Second year student Leah Holland tells us why she came to The Henley College and how the admissions team helped her choose her courses.
“Hi, I’m Leah and I am from High Wycombe. I am currently studying Maths, Business and Textiles A level.
I chose maths as it is a subject I’ve always enjoyed from a young age. I find that textiles is a creative outlet and a way for me to explore the world outside of an academic based subject.
My first impression of the college was that it was a very accepting and diverse place. There are people from all backgrounds and areas, and it just seemed like a place where anyone could fit in and feel like they belong.
I chose to come to The Henley College to have a fresh start and have the opportunity to take A levels. I prefer independent learning and I appreciate not having to be in college everyday, like I would have had to have been at Sixth Form.
My best memory so far from The Henley College was the textiles trip to the fashion museum in Bath. This trip is around Christmas and I got to explore the art in and around the city, whilst also visiting the Christmas markets.
The Henley college has taught me to be independent and to take leadership in my studies, which I think will be very helpful at university. In the future I want to study Maths with Finance at university and possibly go on to work in banking.
If I had one piece of advice for a 15-16 year old thinking about their future, I would suggest choosing the subjects you enjoy whilst also thinking about career options. You don’t want to start two years of studying a subject you don’t enjoy. Talking to the admissions staff really helped me to find a good mix of subjects which worked for me.”
