The only one of its kind in Oxfordshire (and rated outstanding!) our Environmental Science A Level couldn’t be more topical and vital right now. With the increase in awareness of plastic pollution, the global climate emergency and the way that the recent lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic has opened people’s eyes to a greater appreciation of the natural world, now is the best time to be studying a course that could help students on their way to becoming real change makers in the worlds of ecology, conservation and sustainability.
Last year local naturalist, explorer and TV presenter Steve Backshall showed his support for our Environmental Science course and highlighted how crucial environmental scientists are to the future of the planet. He said:
“Ecologists, biologists, conservationists and naturalists are now vital in the corridors of power. Behind every businessperson and politician, is an environmental scientist showing them the way, or fighting them tooth and nail […] If I had my time again, I'd study Environmental Science”.
Our students go on to further study in subjects including geography, conservation, geology, ecology and environmental science at degree level.

Student Profile
Katheryn Taylor finished her Environmental Science A level in July of this year and was nominated for one of our annual Education Awards for going that extra mile while studying this course. Here’s what her teacher Marco Azevedo had to say about her:
“In March 2019, I received an email stating: ‘I will not be able to attend tomorrow’s lesson on Friday 15th March because I am going to the climate strike in London for the day’. This was Katy showing early signs of being an environmental activist worried about the global crisis that we are currently living in.
When I think about who, in the future, might come up with a solution for an environmental issue of global importance, Katy's name always pops into my mind, not just because of her passion but mainly because of her ‘hands-on’ approach and positive attitude to every single challenge that she is presented with. I am sure that she will be successful in any course and become an exceptional professional and human being. I am looking forward to seeing in the media in maybe 10 years’ time, the heading: ‘Female scientist leading solution on the current global crisis!”
