Students take part in this years Stock Market Challenge

Some of our Year 1 Business Students (A level and BTEC) selected to take part in this years annual Stock Market Challenge 2019 held at Reading University ICMA centre, Business School for Financial Markets.

Twelve of our students across the different programmes of study had a unique opportunity to apply their business skills on this simulated trading platform. Students compete in pairs and the real focus on the day is trading their stock in order to make a profit. A level students James Byerley and Ben Purves ranked top of the leader board at one point demonstrating strong communication, negotiation, analytical and decision making skills.

Soriya McDowell - AS Business Student says she she found the day challenging having to apply effective negotiation skills with new people but found that she was enjoying the element of being a “Market Maker” and seeing good deals increase her teams overall profit.

Lecturer of Business Studies, Sarah Price attended the event with the students and said “it was great to see the students thriving in this challenging simulated activity. Our students showed excellent business acumen as they navigated this practical experience learning from their mistakes and relishing in their successes. They showed exemplar skills in communication, negotiation and teamwork and I feel they all found this a challenging yet rewarding experience. A big thankyou to Reading University for putting on such a fantastic event year on year that our students certainly benefit from.”
