STUDENTS MAKE THE GRADE TO MOVE ONTO HIGHER EDUCATION

Congratulations to BTEC Performing Arts and A Level Dance students who will be furthering their education, talents and abilities at Higher Educational institutions.

The Performing Arts department at The Henley College are extremely proud of their second year students who have completed their work and are moving on to some very prestigious further education establishments. Programme Leader, Tara Choudrie has said: "Our students have worked so hard over the last two years, as a department we are so pleased they have been able to get into some very tough and well respected institutions."

We asked BTEC Performing Arts student, Megan Goncalves who will be studying the BA (Hons) in Acting at Bath Spa University in September, why she choose to study at The Henley College rather than staying on at Newlands Girls' School? Megan replied: I was quite nervous to leave the comfort of my sixth form school but as soon as I came to The Henley College on an Open Day and spoke to teacher Neil McCurley, I instantly knew I wanted to come here! After my two years here I definitely feel as though I’m more of an independent person and ready to start university in September.

BTEC Performing Arts student, Libby Welsh was the Team Dance Captain at the Christmas production of 'Grease' and in September will be attending the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.  We asked Libby how the BTEC in Performing Arts has helped her achieve her goals? Libby explained: "Over the duration of the course we have been doing a lot of work based on strength and conditioning, as well as this we also cover a lot of techniques".

Jack Frewin who also studies the BTEC Performing Arts course has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the all the brilliant performances and shows that have been put on by the Performing Arts department and explained that if anyone is struggling with a specific piece of work teachers are on hand to help. Jack summarised his experience: “The Henley College has been an incredible stepping stone to the next part of my life, the tutors here have been so supportive in getting me to that next step". Jack will be going on to study the 1 Year Foundation Course in Musical Theatre at Read College.
