Physics students get a taste of Oxford

A Level Physics students at The Henley College took part in a one day event, in partnership with the physics and materials departments at the University of Oxford, aimed at giving them a taster of what studying physics is like at university.

Year 1 students created a working battery from simple materials, and then spent the rest of the day in an interactive session, calculating the age of the universe using telescopic images.

Students were given a talk by a current material science and physics student from Oxford, and during the day they attended two presentations; the first given by Dr Clara Barker on superconductivity, and the second on particle physics from Eimear Conroy who delivered her presentation from the Large Hadron Collider.

This event was an invaluable opportunity for Henley College students to experience a first hand the wealth of knowledge and opportunities that studying Physics at university can give them.
