Ofsted May 2016

The Henley College is delighted to announce that it has retained its ‘Good’ rating following a recent Ofsted Short Inspection in May. The report highlights many strengths and outstanding features that recognise the high quality of provision the College continues to offer.

The report praises the College’s broad curriculum offering stating that: “Students have access to a wide range of academic and vocational subjects that are closely aligned to their needs and future aspirations.”

Inspectors also commented on how the College develops employment, personal and social skills through its subject and extra-curricular activities. The College was described as providing “a pleasant and harmonious learning environment in which students thrive” adding that students “enjoy college and attendance is high.”

Student success and achievement was also recognised with students developing the skills required to progress on to their next step. “The vast majority of students progress on to positive destinations, such as higher education, employment or further training. Careers advice is good and effectively supports the development of students’ confidence enabling many to achieve beyond their initial expectations.”

The inspection confirmed that the vast majority of college students achieve and make good progress. Inspectors highlighted that the success rates of those studying vocational, foundation and high-needs programmes are particularly high and commented that our GCSE high grades for English and Mathematics were “well above the rate of similar colleges.” They also praised our extensive apprenticeship programme for achievements that “were well above the national rate.”

Acting Principal, Simon Cuthbert, said: “The inspectors saw a college community that knows, supports and values its students and each other and that is a great credit to the hard work and commitment given by our staff. I would also like to congratulate our students on their impeccable behaviour and for being wonderful ambassadors for our College.”

Mr Cuthbert added: “We take enormous pride in what we know to be an excellent college and will keep a strong focus on continuous improvement and becoming an ‘Outstanding’ college in the future.”
