Applied Psychology students participated in a fun workshop last week, conducted by Occupational Therapist, Tori, who works in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) for Oxford Health.

Teacher Harri said, "In Psychology, this occupation isn’t spoken about enough, therefore Tori and I wanted to do something to encourage the younger generation to hear more about it, speak to others about it and essentially get more people involved in the occupation.

During the workshop, we did lots of fun activities which helped the students understand more about the importance of occupational therapy in a variety of different settings such as hospitals, forensics, schools, SEN provision and CAMHS. We paid particular attention to the fact that we actually have eight senses rather than the five that are well-known.

For this we did lots of rubbing bellies and patting heads, balancing on one leg with our eyes shut and squatting against a wall! Not sure I was any good at it but the students were exceptional. After that, we looked at our own sensory needs and everyone left with an assessment of themselves and what they need from their learning environments."

Student Isabelle said, “The workshop was engaging, inspiring and very informative! It was especially interesting when Tori explained her career path and we went through different professions that she has worked alongside in her job.”
