Matthew Biggs is off to Cambridge!

Matthew Biggs achieves three A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths in A Levels Results.

Matthew Biggs, one of our Education Award Winners, has achieved an awe-inspiring three A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths in his A Levels.

Matthew, who lives in Wokingham and previously attended The Holt School said: “I feel ecstatic about my results! My next steps are to study a degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and hopefully go into scientific research following that."

We interviewed him about his time at The Henley College:

How do you feel about winning an Education Award?

I feel very honoured to be selected for this, I feel proud of myself for working hard enough for it to be recognised by my teachers

What attracted you to study at The Henley College?

The private coach made it easy to directly get to the college rather than tricky train journeys I’d need for other colleges. I didn’t want to go to a sixth form since it felt too strict and I wanted to be able to study in my own way. Having Wednesdays off allowed me to set aside that time to focus on my studies in a familiar environment.

What have you enjoyed most about life as a student at Henley?

The large group of friends I’ve managed to build through mutual connections over many subjects is really nice. I liked always having people around I could chill with if I wasn’t up for studying outside of lessons.

What have you enjoyed most about your chosen subjects?

Within my science subjects I enjoy the practicals since they are the physical demonstrations to prove the theory I've learnt about. In Maths, I enjoy the problem solving and the satisfaction I feel from thinking through and completing a hard question.

How do you feel the College has supported you with your studies and/or personally?

In all of my subjects I have teachers I’m able to reach out to frequently to clarify classwork and answer any questions I have. I felt very supported by them.

What is your best memory of your time at The Henley College?

It’s been the times in the summery months when after lessons some friends and I would occasionally go down to the river where we might walk or get an ice cream. The nature is very relaxing.

What do you feel has been your greatest achievement whilst at the College

Winning gold in the chemistry Olympiad felt really great, since I’d put in a lot of effort into preparation along with guidance from my chemistry teacher.

Do you feel The Henley College has helped you to positively work towards your future goals?

Yes, absolutely. The careers advisor helped me choose which universities would be good for me to apply to, and pushed me to apply to Oxbridge. The college then assigned me an absolutely fabulous Oxbridge advisor who helped me a tremendous amount in my application: preparing for my personal statement, writing my personal statement, admission exam preparation and interview preparation.

Would you recommend The Henley College to other students?

Yes, the college supplies excellent resources for those who’d like to take advantage of it, whilst also giving the leeway to pave the experience each individual wants out of it.
