It is not every 18 year old who can boast an Olympic Silver especially when in it is in Chemistry! But one student from The Henley College has just been awarded Silver in the 49th UK Chemistry Olympiad.
Kieran Hogan, from Maidenhead, achieved the award in the competition organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry. To win, he had to score highly against some stiff competition in a series of written tests based on real world chemistry problems. The Royal Society says the competition, for post 16 Chemistry students, is “an opportunity to develop and showcase some of the skills required for studying Chemistry at University and beyond.
Before the competition, Kieran went into strict training with the support of Andy Sutton and Colin Suttie, his A level Chemistry teachers at The Henley College. He says they played a huge part in his success.
Kieran, who is taking A’ levels in Chemistry, Maths and Physics, is planning to take a Masters in Chemistry at Nottingham University.
