Joe secures place at Italia Conti

Second year student, Joe Gater, has secured himself a place on Italia Conti’s BA (Hons) Acting Programme in September.

Joe, who is currently studying the Performing Arts Extended Diploma at The Henley College was delighted to hear that his application was successful at this high profile and prestigious acting institution.

Joe said: “I am so excited to study there, their full-on course includes everything, with units in dance and singing to train you for all and any type of acting you could imagine. I can’t wait to learn with the industry professionals, and living in central London will be amazing!”

Joe also was a guest speaker at College’s Virtual Open Event on Thursday 21st May, giving an honest and engaging account of his experience as a student at Henley. The event was the first of this kind for the College, enabling prospective students and their parents to hear more about the College from a wide range of speakers, from both curriculum and pastoral areas. Joe also showcased his talent in a recent ‘Lockdown’ music performance alongside student, Ellie Cosby, performing a beautiful acoustic cover of ‘She’s Casual’ by The Hunna.

Lisa Crew, Performing Arts teacher and Professional Tutor said: "Joe has displayed talent, drive but also humility since he joined the college and is not only a talent on the boards but also a real academic powerhouse. This may make some students over-confident, but Joe is kind, sympathetic and humble, as at ease up -close when telling stories to primary school children as he is on a professional stage.

He is always available to help out in college wide activities and he has represented the college in several ways over the past two years, doing stand-up comedy at RugFest last year, playing lead roles in the College's Musical's and straight plays, Story Telling during the Henley Children's festival and being part of our first Virtual Open Evening.

He follows a stellar line of achievers from our BTEC Performing Arts and A-Level Drama Courses whom thrive at the college and have gone on to RADA, CSSD, GSA, Mountview, Bird, Laine, LAMDA, LABAN, P.P.A., Royal Holloway. Joe will continue to do us proud as he carries his light forward to bring joy and warmth to those that he meets and performs with. He is a student whom will be missed by all of his teachers here at the Henley College but he takes our pride with him."
