Congratulations to Jessica Bines for getting her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE).
For the award, Jessica, who is currently studying A levels in Geography, Maths and Further Maths, chose to do netball for the physical section, driving lessons for her skill and continued to work with her local Brownie unit for the volunteering section.
Speaking about the gold award Jessica said:
“I chose activities that were already part of my routine for my Gold so that I was able to complete the award whilst at College. This meant that when it came to the expedition section of the award, I met a new group of friends and it made the experience even better.
We were meant to do two expeditions in Wales (“Practice” and “Qualifying”), however, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we ended up completing it in the Chilterns.
Even though I have now completed my DofE, I am hoping to see if I can possibly take part in further challenges at university as it is a great way of involving yourself and meeting new people.”
The Duke of Edinburgh charity works with organisations across the UK to help young people gain essential skills, experience, confidence and resilience to successfully navigate adult life, which the College supports by offering the DofE as part of our Enrichment programme.
All students at the College are encouraged to take part in Enrichment activities, whether they be clubs or societies or sports which typically take place on a Wednesday afternoon. Find out more here.
