Congratulations to the Level 3 Extended Diploma Business students who have managed to raise a record breaking £4252.08 for local charities.
Students worked in groups to organise and hold special events including, a Sponsored Swim, Pub Quiz, Childrens’ Fun Day, Car Wash, Valentine Day Quiz at Bury Lodge Care Home (Beaconsfield), Refreshments and Quiz at Acacia Lodge Care Home (Henley), Raffle and Balloon Quiz.
Ellie Jones, 18 years old from Woodcote, Jessica Hogan, 18 years old also from Woodcote, Annabel Van Walwyk, 17 years old from Sonning Common and Melis Demirturk, 18 years old from Reading reached out to local charities to sponsor for their unit on Managing A Business Event Unit with teacher Eulinda Ogiste. The aim of the unit is to develop students’ skills and knowledge of organising and coordinating a business event. This is a practical and challenging activity that involves liaising with others, organising refreshments and equipment, planning, keeping records, managing a budget and carrying out the event. The students must ensure that the event is carried out within the required legal framework, such as Contract Law, Consumer Protection Laws and Health and Safety.
The BTEC Business students as a group chose to support; Sue Ryder Nettlebed, Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Bloodwise and Debra. Ellie and her team contacted the chosen charities and commented: “My group and I all had a personal connection to the charities we chose and we’re all so pleased we have been able to raise so much money and awareness for them”. The foursome carried out a coffee morning at the Woodcote Village Hall and a Sponsored Swim at the Oratory School. Annabel feels very proud of the whole group saying: “To experience something like this is very meaningful as it will go to a good cause. We are very happy that all of our hard work has paid off”.
Students would like to thank all the Henley businesses, including Starbucks, W H Smith, Bell Street Bookshop, The Little Angel Pub, Henley Town Hall, RUSH Trampoline, Hobbs of Henley and The Henley Picture House who supported their event by donating items/goods for the students raffle.
Representatives from each charity attended a ceremony event last week organised by the Business teachers to congratulate their students on their hard work and for the charities to accept their cheques. Ben Smart, Sue Ryder (Nettlebed) Community Fundraising Officer was delighted with all the students’ enthusiasm and said: “We are really impressed with the amount that students have managed to raise this year. Sue Ryder could not operate without the communities support to raise funds and awareness for us, we really appreciate their hard work”.
Business teacher Sarah Price, is delighted with this year’s Extended Diploma Business Students and said: “Our students have worked tirelessly hard to raise money for the well deserving charities. They have proven themselves to be an exceptional bunch of students showing dedication and resilience in all that they do and the teaching team and I have been very proud and privileged to have known them and supported them over the past two years”.
