Jake Frost wins Public Services Award and is about to start his degree-level apprenticeship with Thames Valley Police.
Former student Jake, from Chalfont St Peter, has won the Silver Award for BTEC Public Services Learner of the Year from exam board Pearson.
Jake finished at The Henley College last year having achieved 3 D* in his Level 3 Public Services Extended Diploma and is about to start his Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship with Thames Valley Police next month.
He came in to talk to and inspire current Public Services students as well as being presented with his certificate by Principal Satwant Deol.
Jake's teacher Andrew Unsworth says “Jake has been a true inspiration and role model guiding and leading his classmates through teamwork activities, trip to Wales practical assessments and organisation with classroom and coursework tasks. We are all delighted that his hard work has received national recognition in this national student of the year award. Teachers, staff and students alike wish Jake all the best in his Degree level Apprenticeship with Thames Valley Police starting in October and look forward to welcoming him back to college to talk to new students about the course, the apprenticeship and Policing with TVP”
How do you feel about receiving this award?
I feel over the moon – it’s amazing.
What is your best memory of your time at The Henley College?
My best memories from The Henley College were filming the Pearson videos and playing on the football team.
What did you enjoy most about life as a student at Henley?
I most enjoyed meeting new people and making friends.
What did you enjoy most about studying Public Services?
What I enjoyed most were the practical units and assessments because they really prepare you for going into a full-time job. I liked the course because of the wide range of units it has to offer, for me, joining the police, looking into the police hierarchy structure, it showed what opportunities there were for me and also what kind of grades or what were the things I needed to do to get to that stage.
For instance, the police apprenticeship really prepares you to do that job because you’re learning how to set up an investigation, how to manage a crime scene, how to arrest someone lawfully and unlawfully. Having those behind you as well as your theory knowledge, honestly, doing a BTEC does really push you that step further.
What are your ambitions for the future?
Thinking beyond my apprenticeship, I would like to eventually get into the armed response unit.
Would you recommend The Henley College to other students?
I would 110% recommend The Henley College to other students.
What advice would you give the current students at The Henley College?
My advice would be to knuckle down and get the work done because it’s only a short time you’re at college.
