Dream Degree Apprenticeship for Rhiannon

Former student Rhiannon Dodson-Edwards talks about her time with us and about achieving her long held goal of becoming an apprentice at Cisco.

“In July I will start on a degree apprenticeship with Cisco, studying a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions as well as gaining other professional qualifications.

Whilst at The Henley College I studied A Levels in Economics, Politics and English Language and Literature as well as an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and thoroughly enjoyed all my courses. My teachers were all incredibly supportive during my two years at the college and I know that I will keep in contact with them in the future. My teachers, Paul, Stephen, Shirley, Matt, and my tutors Jay and Jess were among the very first people I told after being offered the apprenticeship.

As well as applying for the degree apprenticeship, I also applied to university for Politics and International Relations, being offered places at the London School of Economics, Warwick, Manchester, Reading and Royal Holloway; however I always knew that an apprenticeship was the right path for me.

Before I even started at the Henley College I had wanted to achieve an apprenticeship with Cisco for about four years after having a tour of their Feltham office in year 10, doing work experience there in year 11 and then again in year 13, so I am extremely proud of myself for achieving my goal. The application process itself was very enjoyable too, so I recommend to other people thinking of what to do next year to apply for an apprenticeship. Even if you do not get the apprenticeship the experience is invaluable.

If there is one piece of advice I would give to a 16 year old thinking about their future is to keep your options open. Apply for university, apprenticeships and jobs, etc, so you give yourself the best opportunities for the future."

There's still time to Apply to study at The Henley College on our A Level or Vocational courses starting this Autumn. Apply now here - https://www.henleycol.ac.uk/apply/
