Art & Design student tells us what she loved about her course

Sydony Greenwood joined The Henley College in 2018 and studied Art and Design Extended Diploma Level 3.

We caught up with her to find out what she enjoyed about her course and the College.

“I knew I didn’t want to do exams at A Level, so I chose to study Btec Art & Design as its assessed on 100% coursework. I enjoyed the course as there was so much available for me to try.

My best memory from my time at the College is the River and Rowing Museum exhibition we held at the beginning of 2020. It was amazing to see all our hard work in a gallery space where people could view it.

I’ve always enjoyed designing and art was my favourite subject at school. While studying Art & Design at the College, my teacher, Claire Elmes, helped me stay focused to achieve my goals and she always supported my ideas.

I gained confidence in my work at Henley. Claire always kept our class motivated and she was the only person that truly believed we were all great artists and would help us in any way she could to make sure we thrived.

After College, I was planning on going straight to university to study Set Design for Film and TV, but decided that doing a foundation year first would help build up my portfolio and give me more practice. In the future, I want to have my name in the credits of a film, and I would love to design a theatre production and work at Pinewood Studios.

My advice to 15-16-year-olds thinking about their future would be don't limit yourself on what you think you can make, keep designing and practice all the time.”
