With the London marathon being cancelled, Sport teacher, Becky Honour didn't let this deter her. She opted to plan her own 26.2 miles, got her running trainers on and set out.
On Sunday 26th April, as part of the 2.6 challenge to continue to raise money for charities who are in need of donations with the London marathon cancellation, our very own Becky Honour ran 26.2 miles to complete a full marathon.
She said, "So today should have been my first marathon – the London marathon for the amazing FOP Friends.
Unfortunately this event was cancelled so I asked friends that have helped me to train to join me in completing 2.62 miles each. They have all been incredible and thankfully agreed.
Last weekend I decided that after a 5 week period of no long runs (longest taper ever!) that I would attempt a marathon of my own today.
For anyone that knows me, I do not enjoy running on my own and have never run a marathon so this was going to be a challenge.
With the help of my friend Jo, I planned my 26.2 miles and surprised as many friends and family as I could on the way round.
I managed a time of 4:16:40 – it was brutal from mile 20, but I did it!"
Incredible determination to continue with this challenge despite all that is going on and the kind of spirit and drive that has embodied the whole Henley community during this difficult time.
Well done Becky! A superb achievement, we're all incredibly proud to have you as part of The Henley College team!
