On Monday 6 March Public Service students embarked on their four day activity trip to Brecon, Wales.
During the trip students developed valuable teamwork and leadership skills in activities such as the night hike, expedition and then had to help their team set up camp and cook food on Monday night. Other activities including Rock Climbing, Gorge Walking, Archery and Caving tested students discipline, resolve and positive thinking in overcoming fears.
First year student Bea Barefield, commented on Caving at the infamous Yr Ogof caves “I thought I’d hate it but I love it!” On Rock climbing Georgia Kemp said her achievement of the week was “Climbing higher on rock climbing than anticipated."
Trip leader Andrew Unsworth summarised the achievements of the Public Service students involved by saying “It is fantastic to see the progression of these fine young people as they develop new found confidence, teamwork and leadership in an alternative practical learning environment!”.
Special thanks to Nathan Croucher, Charlotte Sado and our two Public Service 2nd year student helpers Craig Snelling and Thomas Moore who have helped the first years to have the opportunity to progress in the Teamwork and Leadership and Understanding Discipline Units covered in both the 90 credit and extended diploma.
Owen Watkins, Mitchell Plunkett and Josh Hemphill all reflected “This is the best school trip we have ever been on!”
