Carly Newman, a former student and recent winner of Pride of Reading Awards Young Person of the Year, came to visit the Henley College last Friday.
A former Reading Girls’ School pupil, Carly studied A Levels in Philosophy, English Literature and History alongside an AS in Classics and an extended project at the The Henley College, Oxon. She is currently studying Philosophy at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is also Vice Chair of the university’s mental health committee.
She met with student services, the student leadership team and the principal to discuss collaborating on mental health initiatives. As well as ideas on organising speakers, a mentoring scheme, gender diversity and a mindfulness app, Carly will help with presenting at a breakfast club meeting at the Rotary Club Henley-on-Thames. This will help the college to secure additional funding for mental health.
Carly said ‘I loved my time at Henley for it's huge range of subjects and for the mini-university atmosphere and teaching style and so I am delighted to have been asked to collaborate with the College on their well-being services and look forward to what this partnership will bring in the future.
It's so great to work with both passionate young people, and staff who really care about the well-being of their students, and this is something that I saw in abundance in the meeting on Friday.’
