A dozen Public Service / Social Studies students from The Henley College are looking forward to joining the team of volunteer officials for the 2017 Oxfordshire Schools County Badminton Tournament to be held in Abingdon next week.
The twelve, all studying for an Extended Diploma in Public Services, successfully completed their Young Official Award with Badminton England and are now qualified to act as umpires for the competition.
Teacher, Andrew Unsworth, who selected the students to take part, said: “Getting involved in this kind of extra-curricular activity is great for the students. It helps to give them extra confidence and the experience and qualification really enhances their CVs.
Student, Mitchell Plunkett, commented: “It is good to have a practical qualification gained outside of the classroom which can be used in the future.”
The Extended Diploma in Public Services allows young people to explore the way the world works - from international politics through to Law and Psychology. It builds a better understanding of society and opens up pathways to exciting university options and challenging careers.
