College raises enough to buy a shelterbox

We are delighted that the College has raised the £590 needed to buy a ShelterBox for a family in need.

Each box contains a family-sized tent that protects people from the elements and provides a safe space in which people can start to recover from physical and emotional trauma. The contents differ depending on the disaster and the climate, but items such as solar lights, water storage and purification equipment, thermal blankets and cooking utensils help start the process of creating a home.

Money was raised through cake and sweet sales, donations, face painting, pin badges, Mario kart competitions and many other mini events.

Head of Student Services, Kathryn Caulfield said "I am so pleased. ShelterBox was our chosen charity this academic year and I honestly thought we would be contributing towards a box – rather than raising the funds for a box of our own!

A huge thanks to the Student Services team, the students and staff in our Pathways department, the library and the student leadership group who all raised money for this worthy cause. Finally, thank you to Sally Baker Candy Floss Maker for her kind donation at our annual EDI event."
