As part of the student enrichment at The Henley College, students are participating today in the 15th year of the global ‘Write for Rights’ campaign on behalf of Amnesty International.
The campaign encourages Amnesty supporters across the globe to write millions of letters for those whose basic human rights are being attacked, continuing a long tradition of writing letters to right some of the world’s biggest wrongs.
Freya Ruparel, who studies A levels in Geography, Philosophy and Environmental Science said ‘Last year we wrote to the Jamaican Prime Minister to stop the harassment of a woman called Shackelia who is challenging the murder of her brother by police. So what we do really does make a difference’
Ciara O’Donnell, who studies Politics, History, English Literature & English Language A levels added ‘A human rights lawyer that we wrote to who was imprisoned for campaigning for human rights received 2 boxes of letters. She said that it really helped to raise her spirits and show that people care and want to help. Every letter is so important.’
