A new era

A new era is about to begin at The Henley College. Governors have agreed a three-year strategic plan to start in January 2018 that they intend will take the College forward into a bright future.

The new strategic plan includes a fresh mission statement: ‘To be an outstanding college at the heart of our community’ and a vision to become leaders in learning.   This will be delivered through academic excellence within a culture of support, development, creativity and innovation.

The Principal and Chief Executive, Satwant Deol, who this week celebrates one year in post, said:  “The next three years will be pivotal for the College. We are looking at everything we do in order to make sure we continue to provide a stimulating learning environment for all our students. We will be building on our excellent results and reputation to create a truly 21st century college.”

Part of the plan includes a brand new STEM centre supported by funding from local partners as well as investment in improved facilities for both young people and adults in the town of Henley-on-Thames. Over the last year, the College has begun to explore options for how best to update its buildings on its two historic sites at Deanfield and Rotherfield.  Having reviewed various options, the College Board is committed to maintaining these two sites.   There have been early informal discussions about the possibility of releasing some spare land for development. The College is exploring a variety of options and will be appointing a design team to develop them further in preparation for a public consultation in the spring of 2018.

The College Board is committed to the support of high quality sporting provision within the town and will continue to work with its partners and friends to ensure that this part of the College's heritage is maintained and celebrated.

Peter le Conte, Chair of the Board, said: "We are proud of the College's long history and we value the quality of the setting of out two key town centre sites.  We are at the start of a journey to explore how we can make the very best of the physical assets that we own and are committed to working with the local community in the development of new proposals.”

“We appreciate that any news of potential development can be worrying. We will be engaging with, and listening to, our neighbours and friends in the development of our plans for the future of the College and how they can contribute to the thriving future of the town we are all proud to call our home."
