Use of Mathematics AS Level

Use of Mathematics A Level is intended for students who do not intend to be specialist mathematicians but who want to learn how to apply advanced mathematics and statistics in real and interesting contexts. It will be particularly useful for students of subjects such as Science, Business Studies, Psychology and Geography. The emphasis is on application and students are encouraged to apply the mathematics that they learn to their other studies and interests. Computers and graphical calculators are used throughout the course.

For AS Use of Mathematics there is a compulsory Algebra module with two Applied Maths modules, currently Data Analysis and Decision Maths.

For A2 Use of Mathematics there are compulsory modules in Calculus and Mathematical Comprehension. Students also complete a portfolio of coursework.

A Level Use of Mathematics is recognised by universities as a suitable entry qualification for courses that have a subsidiary Maths/Statistics content. However for courses with a larger Maths content (such as Physics or Economics) A Level Mathematics may be preferable.
