Engineering at Henley

Engineering is one of those words with a wide range of meanings. In the context of these courses it means Design, bringing about change. Engineers design and improve manufactured goods, artefacts, televisions, computers, bridges, buildings, cars, aeroplanes, ships, naval craft, river craft and furniture only to mention a few. Always improving them making machines better, safer and improving reliability, the intention is to improve our quality of life.

Ryan Ambrose and George Streak, two Manufacturing Engineering students from the College who successfully completed their Diploma course last year, have taken employment with Surelock McGill, a world class manufacturing company based in Wokingham who specialise in door security systems. Surelock McGill has over 45 years’ experience in manufacturing, so this is a fantastic opportunity for Ryan and George to continue their engineering education. They are both very pleased to have been offered employment and all the hard work at college has been well worth the effort and the theory is now being put into practice within their daily routine.

Ryan and George with David Dunbar-Jones

Production Director David Dunbar-Jones  is very pleased with their progress and practical ability. David is keen to continue his link with The HENLEY College and promote Engineering, and recently sponsored an Engineering Award as well as being involved with the work experience programme.  Plans are also in place for students to visit the works to see manufacturing in action.

The Level 2 and Extended Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering courses lead the student into these very interesting, satisfying and rewarding career opportunities. This country requires engineers and designers who understand materials, technology and design things that can be manufactured to improve the quality of our lives. If you want a rewarding exciting career then these course will be the stepping-stones to a success and fulfilling future in engineering.
