Information and Communications Technology AS/A Level

In today’s modern world ICT skills are seen as a must have in both education and employment.  By completing an
A Level in ICT you will develop these skills and gain a qualification to prove that you have them.  This could lead into studying ICT in higher education but even if not it will benefit you no matter whatever subject you decide to study at university.  Likewise it could lead to a job in ICT or simply benefit your employability in any job on the market.

Throughout your studies you will develop a wide range of IT skills including the use of spreadsheet, database and presentation software as well as the use of desktop publishing, website design and graphics editing software.  You will also learn about how information is used effectively by businesses using ICT and what the impacts of the development of ICT on the world are.

At AS Level you will study two modules:

  • IT1: Information Systems
  • IT2: Presenting Information Task

At A2 Level you will study two modules:

  • IT3: Use and Impact of ICT
  • IT4: Relational Database Project

Units IT1 and IT3 are assessed through written examinations that are worth 60% of each year’s grade.  Unit IT2 and IT4 are assessed through internally assessed coursework activities.

An A Level in ICT is not just a useful A Level to have but also an interesting an exciting subject to study.
