ICT Practitioner: First Diploma
This diploma provides the opportunity for you to gain an IT specific, nationally recognised qualification. During the course you will have the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes which will aid your success within any vocation.
You will study six units, including the following two core modules:
Unit 1: Using ICT to Present Information
Designed to enable learners to understand the variety and purpose of different types of documents and how to present information effectively, taking into account the expected audience and how the document will be used.
Unit 2: Introduction to Computer Systems
This unit introduces you to the basic computer principles of how a computer works, the functions of software, hardware specifications and how a user will interact with the computer system.
You will also study a selection of the following specialist units:
- Website Development
- Database Software (including a main project)
- Spreadsheet Software
- Networking Essentials
Opportunities are also provided for students to develop both literacy and numeracy skills through the integration of adult Skills For Life qualifications. Students who have not achieved Grade C, or better, in either GCSE English or GCSE Mathematics, will be encouraged to study and re-take.
On successful completion of the course, at Merit or Distinction level you may progress on to a higher level course, such as the IT Practitioner National Diploma or to employment. Work opportunities exist not only within specialist IT companies, but in a range of businesses as the need for IT skilled workers increases.
