IT Practitioner (Software Development): Extended Diploma

This is a two year course designed for students who are interested in developing a variety of creative and technical ICT skills.  Upon completing the course students will achieve a qualification that is equivalent to 3 A Levels with many of our students continuing onto some excellent universities to further their studies.  Students will also complete work experience during the course which will introduce them to an IT workplace and can help in finding a job in the IT industry upon completing the qualification.

The course consists of eighteen units taken over the two years.

Year 1:

Information Systems
Software Design and Development
Systems Analysis and Design
Event Driven Programming
Database Design
Website Production
Digital Graphics

Year 2:
Organisational Systems Security
Computer Networks
Project Planning with IT
Client Side Customisation of Web Pages
Developing Computer Games
Mathematics for IT Practitioners
Web Server Scripting
Computer Animation
Spreadsheet Modelling

The work will be assessed internally by assignment-based coursework.  A grading scale of pass, merit or distinction is applied to all units.  This course has a bias towards software design, but there are sufficient hardware and business units to give it a diverse appeal to students.  The College has up to date software and hardware and the course continues to achieve very high success rates in terms of both university entry and employment offers.
