RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship

This Essential Navigation Skills course is suitable for new, inexperienced or rusty skippers and crew interested in sailing, motor boating, sea angling or diving. It will cover the following topics: charts and publications; safety; engine checks; buoyage; tidal awareness; visual and electronic navigation; pilotage; rules of the road (International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea); anchoring; weather forecasts; passage planning. The students’ pack will contain a chart, plotter, dividers, course handbook, exercises and an electronic chart plotter CD.

There is no end of course exam, however successful completion of the course depends on maximum attendance and continuous assessment.
