Sport and Exercise Sciences: Level 2

The Level 2 Diploma is designed to provide a highly specialist work related qualification in the field of sport, fitness and health. It provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to prepare for employment in the sports sector or progression onto a related Level 3 qualification.
The Diploma is a full time specialist course that is broadly equivalent to 4 GCSEs. The qualification consists of 7 units over a 1 year period. Learners will study units such as

  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Injury in Sport
  • Practical Sport
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Anatomy for Sport.

Prospective learners must have a strong interest in sport but need not perform at a high standard.

The qualification is assessed entirely through coursework; there are no exams. Coursework for each unit is broken into a number of individual assignments. Coursework comes in a variety of forms; learners can expect to submit essays, mini projects, posters, information leaflets and PowerPoint presentations. The course also provides opportunities to provide learning evidence through video and audio files. Learners will be required to work as individuals and in small groups to provide evidence of their understanding and skills. Coursework is designed to target individual learning needs; the course offers excellent individual support which is provided through differentiated resources and activities.

The BTEC National Diplomas in Sport and Exercise Sciences have been developed in the sport and active leisure sector to:

  • Give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to vocational qualifications such as the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.
  • Give learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
  • Provide education and training for sport, leisure and recreation employees

The Diploma is designed to combine seamlessly with The HENLEY College Sports Development Programme. Participation in this programme is actively encouraged but not mandatory.
