Sport and Exercise Sciences: Level 2

The Level 2 Diploma is designed to provide highly specialist work related qualification in the field of sport, fitness and leisure.  It provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment in the sports sector or progression on to a related Level 3 qualification.

The Diploma is a full time specialist course that is broadly equivalent to 4 GCSEs.  The qualification consists of 2 mandatory units plus 5 optional units.  Learners will study units such as Fitness Testing and Training, Injury in Sport, Practical Sport, Sports Nutrition and Anatomy for Sport.  Prospective learners must have a strong interest in sport but need not perform at a high standard.

The qualification is assessed entirely through coursework; there are no exams.  Learners will be required to work as individuals and in small groups to provide evidence of their understanding and skills.  Coursework is designed to target individual learning needs; the course offer s excellent individual support provided through differentiated resources and activities.

The qualification has been developed in the sport and active leisure sector to:

• give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to vocational qualifications such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences.
• give learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
• provide education and training for sport, leisure and recreation employees

The Diploma is designed to combine seamlessly with The HENLEY College Sports Development Programme.  Participation in this programme is actively encouraged.
