Business and Tourism:
Combined First Extended Certificates
By combining study of the tourism industry with an introduction to the world of business, this vocational course has proved both popular and successful for those who have not achieved enough points at GCSE to qualify for Level 3 courses.
Each certificate is the equivalent to two GCSEs at Grade A* to C. Successful completion will enable you to progress to employment and supplement your current range of GCSEs. Gaining at least Merits can allow you access to various Extended Diploma courses.
You will study the following units:-
- Business Purposes
- Business Organisations
- Financial Forecasting for Business
- Business Enterprise
- Managing Personal Finances
- The UK Travel & Tourism Sector
- Understanding Customer Service in Travel & Tourism
- Understanding the Nature and Effects of World Travel
- Developing Customer Service Skills in Travel and Tourism
- UK Tourism Destinations
- Holiday Planning
You may be able to gain Functional Skills qualifications in ICT and Communication.
Learning is primarily through class-work, role play and case studies. Work is internally assessed which means that although there are no exams, you must be prepared to manage your time well to complete the amount of coursework set.
A two-week period of work experience and The HENLEY College Enrichment Programme are significant elements of the course.
Students who have not achieved Grade C in GCSE English and/or Mathematics will normally be encouraged to study and re-take one of these.
