The Performing Arts department are very proud to be part of the Knife Crime initiative being led by actress Brooke Kinsella in the light of her brother Ben’s tragic murder. In association with Wokingham District Council, Mothers Against Murder and Aggression (MAMMA), Brooke is speaking at a series of events to highlight the dangers of teenagers carrying knives. The initiative well culminate in a DVD being produced that will be sent to schools for them to use in their own drive against knife crime.
The project was officially launched on February 4th at The Forest School in Reading. Brooke Kinsella, Lynn Costello MBE, members of St Johns Ambulance and Wokingham District Council all spoke to the students of the school and the press. The centre piece of the launch was a ten minute knife crime dramatisation from students of the Henley College. Under the direction of Nic Saunders, the students devised and wrote their own piece that shows a realistic scenario in which a knife crime could be committed. The dramatisation was very well received and will now be filmed to form the centre piece of the DVD.
