Henley Recycling Group
Making the world last a little longer.
There's something new in Henley. The town now has its own web site dedicated to the free exchange of goods. It works like Ebay, but everything listed is free.
Our aim is to save stuff from landfill and promote reuse and recycling. So instead of taking unwanted possessions to the tip, why not list them on the site? Whether it is a bedroom suite or a big tin of paint, someone might well be able to use it.
Friends and neighbours have been testing the web site for us and everyone's reaction has been "What a great idea!". The second comment is usually "I hate waste!". It is natural: We all dislike chucking something which we know is still perfectly useable, but we just don't need ourselves anymore. Yet it can be difficult to find a new home for things - so we thought why not use the power of the Internet?
Try out the site and, if you like it, please let your friends and neighbours know about the service. It is very easy to email a link to the site to a friend or colleague. Anyone living in or near Henley can join the group.
The site also features information on reuse and recycling and a forum where you can ask related questions. You can search for specific items or browse through sixteen categories. A handy map shows where each item is located.
There is also the Member Map: A map of the South of England which then quickly zooms in on South Oxfordshire. Anonymous red markers show the location of each member of the group. If you register on the site, you can have fun finding your own marker.
It is all clever stuff and the software was written for the Henley Recycling Group by a sixteen year old pupil of The HENLEY College. There is an uplifting and very positive feel to the web site. There are some useful items listed and the site is a reminder of the generosity of the people living all around you.
There are already a hundred items on offer, but we’d like to see a lot more. So please visit www.henley.recyclinggroup.org and start recycling today!
