AN INVITATION TO MEET THE LIONS OF HENLEY
No not the roaring sort!
But the group of men and women in Henley dedicated to putting something back in to the Community where they live and helping those less fortunate here and all over the World.
Maybe you have skills and experience which you would like to use to benefit people not so lucky as yourself? The Lions Club of Henley is the ideal place to do this, building new friendships at the same time.
We donate c£15,000 each year (proceeds of fundraising events) mainly to local good causes but also National and International projects run by Lions Club members. We also organise community projects helping individuals and organisations.
We meet monthly, you commit the time you can spare, and we also find time to have fun!

Fundraising
This vital aspect of our activities enables us to engage in our community service projects. We rely on the generosity of members of the local community to provide the funds to back up all the projects listed below. Funds are sought through numerous fund-raising activities. In recent years these have included: Collections at Regatta Fireworks; Duck Derby and other river events; Race and Quiz Nights; Promotion of Art exhibitions; Easter egg competitions in local pubs etc. etc.
Community Service.
The Club seeks to serve the local community wherever need is identified, assisting groups and individuals as appropriate.
Recent projects have included:
- Assisting individuals in distress;
- Working with the physical and mentally handicapped;
- Providing hospital equipment and patients' comforts;
- Helping to supply food parcels to those in need;
- Organising outings and sometimes holidays for the elderly or disadvantaged;
- Helping young people through sponsorship;
- Helping to build a store for the Henley Toy Library;
- Making a garden for a home for the elderly;
- Promoting drug awareness programmes in local schools;
- Promoting eye health etc..
Our international activities feature humanitarian projects and include: support for eye hospitals in India; helping with the collection of thousands of pairs of spectacles for recycling in the third world; and through Lions Clubs International Fund (LCIF), we contribute to helping in disaster areas by immediate support of the relief projects of Lions Clubs in the affected areas.
This Club also has an individual project, ‘Bikes for Borama’ to provide much-needed transport for the medical services in Henley’ partnership-link town of Borama in Somalia. In this we are seeking the support of other local organisations.
The Club meets on the first Monday of each month and is very keen to attract new members. Membership is open to all those who wish to help their community.
Members enjoy the fellowship of working together for worthwhile objectives.
